Annual "Labor Day Special" for the Food Pantries
Each year at the end of the blueberry picking season we need to glean the blueberry fields so we have a "Picking for the Food Pantries" day. Now in our fourth year, the public is invited to pick blueberries for free and donate half to the local food pantry. Usually this event is held on Labor Day Monday, but please check back at this website or watch for an email announcement for the exact date.

Cancelled for 2011 due to Hurricane Irene.
Three Rivers Land Trust
Last year Berry Best Farm joined the Three Rivers Land Trust (3RLT). The loss of viable farmland in York County is becoming an increasing concern. Have you noticed how often housing developers have snatched up open fields for housing--land not likely to be ever tilled again, land lost as open space, land available for food production, pasture or potential forest.

We have been concerned and thinking about this issue for some time, but when a nearby field recently sprouted seven houses, we knew it was time to put actions in place. For the past 10 years, 3RLT has been helping landowners preserve and conserve our natural resources. With the help of 3RLT volunteers and through numerous meetings an agreement was drawn up which protects our farm forever from development to be enjoyed by future generations.

We have over 3,000 blueberry bushes with berries that are ripe from mid-July through Labor Day. There are eleven different varieties that ripen at different times throughout the season. This provides us with the longest possible picking season.Raspberries, ripe for a few weeks only in July. Call 207-457-1435 for exact dates.Peaches, ripe mid-August through Labor Day. We grow the following varieties: Garnet Beauty, Red Haven, Canadian Harmony and Harrow Beauty.Sometimes we have fresh cut flowers in the store depending on what's in bloom in the garden; usually we have sunflowers.
All fruit is gently raised using IPM, low-spray conventional agricultural practices.

You can enjoy our berries all year 'round by freezing them. Just spread fresh berries out on a cooking sheet one layer thick and put them in the freezer for a few hours. Do not wash berries!
After they are frozen you can put the berries into a freezer storage bag and store the freezer.
You can have delicious berries all through the winter!
